About Sunray

Introduction

"Standing at the furthest point on the shingles of the unique Dungeness Nature Reserve Sunray merges beautifully the feel of stripped back beach living with whitewashed panelled walls and dark wooden floors flooded with light with the dark wooden frame of an original 19th-century railway carriage a truly exquisite contrast of light and dark. With uninterrupted views over the unspoilt landscape dubbed as Britain’s only desert and out to sea which can be enjoyed in winter and summer alike. Sheltering from the elements inside the comfort of the warm dining room in front of the wood burner from the luxury of the free-standing bath aptly placed for gazing out across the shingles or basking in the sunshine on the wooden sleeper decking with the only noise of the sea and the abundant bird life all around. Days in can be spent flicking through the interesting history of Dungeness studying the bird life books or challenging one another to a game of pool on the mini-pool table.\n\nThe ideal retreat from busy everyday life Sunray makes for a peaceful hideaway for couples and families. Like nowhere else in the UK Dungeness with its 468 acre national nature reserve offers a truly unique and unspoilt landscape to explore. Bird enthusiasts of all ages will adore the views of the active bird life and the unique landscape is a nature lover’s paradise perfect for walking and popular with photographers worldwide.\n\nWith nature all around and the wide open sea your backdrop there is no better place to unwind."

  • What you need to know

Dogs allowed under the condition that they are not allowed to roam freely around the property and stray onto neighbours land. Guests are clearly informed of the importance of not driving off the boundaries of the tracks due to the risk of getting stuck in the shingle.

What makes this area so special

Dungeness is located in an un-spoilt area on the southernmost corner of the bay that stretches from Folkestone to Rye. There are some beautiful walks to explore the wild landscape, and experience the beauty of the sea and the enormous skies. The Old Lighthouse is a popular visitor attraction, as is the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch steam railway which passes close by with the miniature steam train meandering along the coast to Hythe, a wonderful way to enjoy Kent’s scenery. There are two pubs on the reserve, The Britannia and The Pilot, and the unique ’Fish Hut’ selling caught-on-the day fresh fish. The wonderful former smuggler’s town of Rye with its choice of boutique shops, cafes and restaurants is well worth a visit and only 10 miles away.
