helpful and able to answer our questions Great location. the cottage was very clean. the file of details about the cottage was a bit messy and lacked useful instructions. The chiming clock was not appreciated.

They were very helpful in dealing with some issues we had with the cottage. The cottage had a number of issues with electrics and plumbing. Also road outside was very noisy. Heating clanked while on and found the cottage dusty. Location good.

Telephone calls were answered promptly and courteously and all queries answered satisfactorily. We have booked through Mulberry Cottages before and would recommend them to friends. The cottage itself was very good - well equipped and comfortably furnished, plus it was near a very good, family-friendly pub and the local shop. I had been a bit worried about the property not having its own parking space, but in the event there was plenty of parking available in the long parking bay in front of the cottage (large enough to accommodate a good number of cars). The garden was lovely and the garden furniture extremely comfortable. I hadn’t been very clear from the property description online about the bathroom/toilet arrangements - in fact the bathroom (upstairs) has only the wash basin and a bath-with-shower-over- it and the upstairs WC is separate, but I’ve never seen such a cramped WC! The downstairs WC - complete with wash basin - was excellent. The kitchen was very well equipped and the living room was most comfortable with a good wide-screen TV and a very pleasant outlook through the windows. I’m not sure where responsibility for cleaning begins and ends with properties like this: on the whole the cottage was left in a clean condition, but when we got mugs out of the kitchen cupboard they were wet and dirty inside and some of the utensils felt greasy. With the tumble dryer the water compartment was full to the brim - obviously nobody had thought to check that for weeks/months! Also someone (maybe kids from a previous occupancy?) had thoughtfully woven an empty grape stalk into the cord of the kitchen blind. The worst oversight, however, concerned arrangements for rubbish collection. The dustbin had been left in the front of the cottage and was overfilled so that the lid was not securely on. We came down on the morning after our arrival to find that foxes had knocked the bin over and we had to clear up all the rubbish - not pleasant! There was supposed to be a store of strong green bags for non-recyclables but there were none - only flimsy black ones. After a couple of days someone (presumably the cleaner) came round while we were out and took away the dustbin rubbish and moved the bin into the back garden. The worst problem we had was with the shower on the first morning. It looked to be a very simple control but when we pushed the button no water came out. Naturally we looked for some sort of master switch elsewhere but could see nothing. We rang the keyholder, who came round within 2 hours of our call for help. He was extremely nice and put things right immediately: as we had suspected, there is a master switch, and once our rescuer had switched this to the ’on’ position everything was fine. Crucially, however, this switch is situated in a LOCKED CUPBOARD on the landing. Surely part of the cleaner’s duties should be to ensure before he/she leaves the property that this switch is on so that the shower will work. These grumbles aside, we had a lovely week at the cottage. Winchelsea is a beautiful little town and very well situated to explore many attractions. It’s only a relatively short drive to Hastings, where there seemed to be plenty of parking when we arrived at 10 o’clock on a Sunday morning. Rye is delightful and we also had a good time on the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway. Altogether a lovely, relaxing week.
